Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team fell to Roanoke 2-0 on Wednesday evening in a nonconference matchup.
Outshooting Lynchburg 11-9, the Maroons relied heavily on freshman forward Rebecca Carr who tallied a goal and assist to seal the victory.
Both squads were presented with early opportunities, all proving benign until Roanoke's MC Petrucelli found the net during the 31st minute.
Despite leading at the break, Roanoke's lead was all but sealed as the Hornets fired seven shots in the final 45 minutes. Meghan Lauder sent three shots on frame, but none would scurry past Roanoke's goalkeeper Taylor Gallik. Each of the Maroons' five saves was made during the second half.
Roanoke drew the dagger in the 86th minute with an unassisted strike from Rebecca Carr, moving to final time with a two-goal advantage.
The Hornets have dropped consecutive matches for the first time since November 13, 2021, when they fell to Virginia Wesleyan and Middlebury in the postseason.
Lynchburg (2-2) will travel to Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, September 16 at 1:30 p.m. to face No. 24 Emory in a neutral-site battle at Charlotte Soccer Academy.
