Ferrum, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team bested Ferrum in four sets Saturday afternoon.
Kailey Keough hit at .333 with 3.75 kills per set, and Ava Meinhardt continued the momentum from her solid performance Friday and had a season-best 14 kills.
Meinhardt had five kills in the first set as Lynchburg squeaked out a 25-23 victory.
The freshman's ninth kill of the day came at a pivotal moment in the second set. Lynchburg faced set point but stayed alive thanks to Meinhardt's rally-ender. Two Ferrum attack errors and a kill from Spainhour flipped the script in the second set and then the Hornets had the set-point advantage, 25-24. Ferrum retied things at 25-25 before Meinhardt notched her 10th kill. The Hornets went up 2-0 on the Panthers after a ball-handling error.
The Hornets were set up with a match-point in the third set after a kill from Keough, but the Panthers responded with three-unanswered points and stole the third set out from underneath the Hornets 27-25.
Lynchburg won the most-lopsided set in the fourth to secure the victory, but the set was close in the early going. After a tie at 13-13, Lynchburg outscored the Panthers 9-3 to close the door thanks in part from a six-point run.
Keough put the finishing touches on the match with her 15th kill. Jaina Leek assisted on Keough's attack and finished with 12 assists.
Mya Green led the way with 28 assists. She is four-career assists away from 1,500.
Lynchburg (4-6, 1-3 ODAC) hosts Bridgewater on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
