Box Score Danville, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg's men's basketball team defeated Averett University 78-73 on Wednesday.
Jonathan Foust recorded a near double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Parham added 14 points, while Deondre Ross added 13. Miles Taylor and Jake Hart made an impact on the defensive end, recording four steals each. Mason Makovec stuffed the stat sheet, recording nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists in his first start of the season.
Propelled by eight first half points by Parham and seven from Taylor, Lynchburg controlled the first half, leading for all but 2:34. A stepback jumper from Parham with 4:14 left in the first half gave the Hornets their largest lead of the night at 11.
Averett went on a scoring run early in the second half to even the score. At most, Lynchburg trailed by seven points during the second half. A 10 point second half from Foust kept the Hornets within a close margin. A three pointer from Cameron O'Conner with 0:19 remaining in regulation equalized the game and sent it to overtime.Â
In the overtime period, Ross scored seven points, including a layup with 0:34 remaining in the period to give Lynchburg a two possession lead. In the overtime period, Lynchburg shot a perfect 4-4 (100%) from the field. Four personal fouls from Averett in the overtime period allowed Lynchburg to go 7-8 (88%) from the charity stripe.
Lynchburg (10-7, 5-3 ODAC) will host Bridgewater on Saturday, Jan. 20.
