Ahsland, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey squad scored twice in the second period and secured a shutout victory against ODAC foe Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Nunnally Field.
The No. 13 Hornets (8-2, 2-0) earned their fourth straight win and fourth triumph without the opponent scoring this season. Lynchburg let off a season-high 35 shots in the affair, 25 of which were in between the pipes. Reigning ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore
Anna Dorrestijn paced the attack with eight shots and five on goal. Three other Hornet performers fired off five shots on goal: senior
Madison Mark, sophomore
Khanyisile Mzizi, and freshman
Jill Pleiter.
The first score of the matchup came at the 19:44-mark when junior
Danielle Coon found Pleiter, who netted what served as the game winning goal. With less than four minutes to go before the halftime intermission, freshman
Callie Short doubled the Lynchburg lead with a solo goal. The Hornets held onto the two-goal advantage for the remainder of the contest and came out with their second ODAC victory.
The field hockey squad returns to the field tomorrow to host Centre at Shellenberger Field on Sunday, October 13 at noon.
