Men's Soccer Draws With Washington & Lee

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team battled back-and-forth with No. 20 Washington and Lee to a 1-1 draw on Homecoming Saturday at Shellenberger Field this afternoon.

Following a scoreless first half that saw stout defense from both sides, the Hornets (7-2-4, 5-1-2) came out hot after the halftime break, scoring just 2:47 into the second half. Redshirt freshman Evan Pask dished a ball from to top of the box to sophomore Chris Wiley, who turned with possession past his defender and fired it into the bottom corner. The strike gave the Hornets a one-goal advantage that lasted until the final 20 minutes.

In the 71st minute, Matthew Jenkins crossed a ball into Ryan Sharpe, who put it past junior netminder Thomas Viscuso to equalize the score. Aggression heightened for the remainder of the affair as both sides were determined to claim the victory, but neither was able to convert any chances and the score finished out even.

The Hornets held the top goal scorer in the ODAC, Weyimi Agbeyegbe, to just two shots all game and one on goal. Although Lynchburg's strong defensive backline has been the highlight of the squad this year and in today's match, the Hornets had command on offense as well, firing off 11 shots to the Generals' seven.

Lynchburg has yet to be beaten in the month of October with four victories and two draws. Today's allowed goal was the first for the men's soccer crew over that span. The Hornets host two more games before hitting the road for the final time of the regular season.

The next outing for the men's soccer team will be against Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m.
