Waco, Texas -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian rider
Lucy Metzler was tabbed the NCEA's Arion Sellier Flat Rider of the Month, announced by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association office on Wednesday afternoon.
Metzler earns the top national honor for flat riders this month for the first time in program history. She was awarded the Most Outstanding Performer for flat in the No. 3 Hornets' win against Centenary this past Sunday. The senior tied the meet's highest score of the day with an 89 riding Caleb. She also earned a score of 80 riding Colin in Lynchburg's meet against Charleston.
Earlier this week, Metzler was named the ODAC Flat Rider of the Week for her performance on the weekend. The Boulder, Colo. native is a three-time ODAC Rider of the Week since fall 2023, when the ODAC Rider of the Week award first began to be distributed. Other accolades that Metzler has earned throughout her collegiate career include 2023 NCEA All-Academic First Team, 2023 ECAC All-Academic First Team, 2022 ECAC Flat Rider of the Month, and 2022 ODAC All-Conference.
The next competition on the Hornets' schedule is their IHSA event. The University of Lynchburg IHSA is set to kick off in Rustburg, Va. on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6, each day beginning at 9 a.m.
