Women's Volleyball Sweeps Guilford

Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team took down Guilford in straight sets on Friday night, effectively securing the ability to host the ODAC postseason quarterfinal round.

The Hornets (16-11, 8-4) won their third consecutive ODAC contest, each one with a sweep. Lynchburg's eight conference victories is enough to earn them the fourth-seed in the ODAC tournament. 

Freshman Leah DiNardo led the squad offensively in the match with an impressive 12 kills on 28 attempts for a hitting percentage of .556. She paces the Hornets in hitting percentage this season at .310 percent, enough to rank fifth in the ODAC. Atop the team in points was sophomore Tori Williamson with 14.0. Williamson served up three aces while tallying 11 kills and nine digs. 

Lynchburg separated early in the first set with a 9-1 run, giving the Hornets a 16-9 advantage. Despite Guilford taking a 22-21 lead late in the first frame, Lynchburg closed out the set with three straight points to take a 1-0 edge. The second set was a similar sight, the Hornets produced an 11-1 run early on to storm ahead, 14-5. The Quakers rallied with nine consectuive points towards the end of the frame that brought them within one of the Hornets, 22-21. Lynchburg went on to take set two 25-22. 

The third frame was even through the first 28 points. With the score knotted at 14-14, Lynchburg strung together a 9-1 rally that put the match out of reach for Guilford. The Hornets went on to complete the sweep with a 25-17 decision in the third set.

The women's volleyball team has wrapped up conference action for the regular season. Next on the slate for Lynchburg are matchups against Catholic and Marymount on Friday, November 8 in the nation's capital.
