Washington D.C. -- The University of Lynchburg Hornets women's volleyball team traveled to Washington D.C today for two games. First against the Catholic University Cardinals then the Marymount University Saints to finish off the regular season.
The Hornets (18-11) started with Catholic (14-20), winning the match in four frames. The first set, the Hornets jumped out first with a kill from
Tori Williamson to set the tone. The Hornets played a tight game through to the end taking the set 25-19.
In the second set, the Cardinals scored first then began to pull away from the Hornets. The Hornets fought their way through to a comeback with Williamson and Kaleigh Keough at the front of the charge, leading the team in kills. The Hornets scored 5 straight points to take the frame 25-18.
The third set started off similarly, however the Hornets weren't able to make it all the way to take the lead again falling 20-25 to the Cardinals. Finally, in the fourth frame the Hornets came out strong, never trailing the Cardinals. Williamson and Keough again led the team to finish out the set 25-17.
In their next match of the day, the Hornets took down the Marymount Saints (10-21) in a 3-1 victory. The first set was tight between the teams before the Hornets went on a spectacular run, scoring 7 in a row, four of which were kills by Williamson, winning the set 25-18.
The Hornets started off slow in the second set before slowly chipping away at the Saints then finally catching them at 17-17. The rest of the set stayed close before the Hornets ultimately fell to the Saints 23-25.
The third and fourth sets played out much like the first. The teams battled it out, staying within reach of each other the whole time. The Hornets took the third 21-25, and the fourth 20-25 with
Leah DiNardo ending the game with her 10th kill against the Saints.
Following their wins today the Hornets go into the ODAC quarterfinals next Tuesday, November 12, at 6:30pm with a 8-4 conference record.
