Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set for its season opener when Southern Virginia comes to Turner Gym on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m.

The Hornets open up their 2024-25 campaign following a 15-win season in 2023-24. Last season, Lynchburg advanced to the semifinal round of the ODAC postseason before falling to Shenandoah, 55-42. The Hornets concluded the 2023-24 journey with a 9-9 record in conference play, including two victories to finish the regular season. In the ODAC preseason coaches poll, Lynchburg was tabbed sixth overall.

In recent history, the Hornets have squared up on the hardwood just once against the Knights. On Dec. 7, 2012, the two sides met in Turner Gym and battled to a 61-59 finish in favor of Lynchburg. Tomorrow's competition will be the first official contest of the 2024-25 season for Southern Virginia.

Top scorer from last season, Bree Spainhour, returns to the court for the Hornets this season. Darcy Ross and Brooke Carson are a couple of key leaders returning this year as well. 

Following tomorrow's game, Lynchburg hits the road for three straight outings before returning home. First up on the road trip will be Marymount in Arlington, Va. on Tuesday, November 12 at 6 p.m.
