Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team opened up the season at home against Southern Virginia and lost, 76-44, on Friday night inside Turner Gym.
The Hornets (0-1) squared up on the hard court against a strong SVU side, who finished last season with a 22-7 record. After the home team got the first points of the matchup, the visiting squad scored 11 straight and stayed in front for the remainder of the competition. Although the Hornets trailed in the second half, they did not quit, posting 29 points in the final 20 minutes of the game.
11 different Lynchburg athletes put points on the board tonight. Junior guard
Macey Mullins was Lynchburg's top scorer in the affair with 12 points. She added three rebounds and one assist to her performance. Sophomore guard
Kate Littlejohn was the next top performer for the Hornets, tallying nine points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Southern Virginia's Abigail Snyder and Hailey Paige earned 17 and 12 points in the affair, respectively. The Knights shot at a 50.8% clip and made all eight of their freethrow attempts.
Lynchburg looks ahead to its next outing against Marymount in Arlington, Va. on Tuesday, November 12 at 6 p.m.
