Lynchburg, Va. -- The Hornets (5-3) are set to host the Wayne Proffitt Classic, starting this Tuesday, Dec. 17.
The Wayne Proffitt Classic will include a neutral site game to tip things off, as Nazareth (3-3) faces off against Randolph (5-3). Following this affair, Lynchburg will take on Nazareth the next day. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in program history.
In their last game, the Golden Flyers snapped a three-game losing skid with an 83-78 OT win over Alfred University. On the offensive end, Nazareth is led by Luke Insley and Jaylen Savage, both averaging over 18 PPG. Insley has dominated on the interior, as the 5'10 guard has shot at a 60% clip from the floor, and is still yet to make his first three-pointer of the season. As a team, Nazareth's competition has dominated from the perimeter, making 10 threes a game at 40% on average.
The Hornets return to Turner Gymnasium after dropping their most recent match on the road against Ferrum, ending a four-game winning streak. Nonetheless, the Hornets have begun to discover their team identity, making an average of eight three-pointers per game at 34% and controlling the glass behind their 40 RPG.
Following this contest, Lynchburg will head to Nashville, Tenn. for two final games before the new year. The Hornets will take on Mount Aloysius on Dec. 29 and Marietta on Dec. 30. Lynchburg will return home on Jan. 4 to continue their ODAC schedule against Hampden-Sydney.
