Hornets Head to Music City Classic

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets (6-3) head to Nashville, Tenn for their final two non-conference games. Lynchburg will play Mount Aloysius (3-5) on Sunday, Dec 29, at 2 p.m. followed by  Marietta (5-3) the next day, Dec. 30, at noon.

This will be the first time in program history that the Hornets' have shared the floor with either school.

Mount Aloysius returns to play after a three-week hiatus. In their most recent matchup on Dec. 7, the Mounties lost 104-105 to Pitt-Bradford. While the team has averaged an impressive 88 PPG, they have also allowed their opposition to score 96 PPG on average. Turnovers have been a crucial factor for the Mounties' opponents, as they have turned it over 18 times per game and given up nearly 23 points a game off those turnovers.

Nonetheless, the Hornets will have to try and stay in front of one of the best offensives they have seen this season. De'Von Haggans has led the way with 22.8 PPG; right behind him are teammates Will Hagwood (20.6 PPG) and BJ Busbee (16.1 PPG).

The Marietta Pioneers are on a two-game losing skid, including a 77-70 2OT loss against Otterbein University in the most recent game, on Dec. 17. Nonetheless, the Pioneers have already picked up a signature win by taking down a top-25 opponent in a 96-71 win over Hope College.

The Pioneers shoot the three extremely well, averaging 10.6 per game at 39.2%. Quick hands on the defensive end have also become a staple of the team's identity. The group averages 8.5 steals per game, with nine players averaging 0.9 or more.

Senior forward Frank Waganfeald (15.1 PPG) and junior guard Jayden Bradshaw (14.6 PPG) lead the team in scoring this season. The dynamic duo can score from all three levels and makes their presence known on the defensive end as well.

The games will be streamed online on BallerTV. Following these games, the Hornets will ring in the new year against Hampden-Sydney in Turner Gym on Jan. 4.
