Women's Basketball Visits Hollins For Midweek Matchup

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set for its second ODAC competition of the season against Hollins University on Wednesday, December 4 in Roanoke, Va. at 7 p.m.

The Hornets (2-4, 0-1) squared off against Hollins twice last season, both resulting in commanding victories. The first matchup saw a strong double-digit lead late in the first quarter that set the Hornets up for a 78-48 victory. Forward Bree Spainhour led the way for Lynchburg with 15 points and 12 rebounds, nine of which by halftime. The second meeting resulted in a 72-33 success for the Hornets and guard Sayre Brandstatter nearly notched a double double with 10 rebounds and nine points.

The Lynchburg Hornets had a win in their last game at home in Turner Gymnasium, clinching the triumph with a score of 71-46 against North Carolina Wesleyan. Top performers for this contest were guard Kate Littlejohn with an 18-point performance and Spainhour with a career-best seven assists, 12 points, six boards, and two blocks.

Spainhour paces the Lynchburg squad offensively and defensively with 11.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest. Guard Olivia Harris (10.8 points per game) and Littlejohn (10.7 ppg.) are the other Hornet performers who average double-digit scoring. Guard Brooke Cason has made a significant impact defensively with a team-high 11 steals and four blocks to go along with 7.7 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per affair.

Hollins has started to year off with an unblemished 5-0 record, most recently defeating ODAC foe Roanoke, 57-46. Backcourt duo Missy Hazard and Noelani Carter each average double-figure scoring with 10.2 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. Forward Cabria Mutz, reigning ODAC Defensive Player of the Week, averages a team-best 11.8 boards per outing and scores 9.6 points per affair. Guards Zaria Holden and Sarah Morales round out Hollins starters and each have scored 9.2 points per game this season.

After the matchup against Hollins, the Hornets will be back in Turner Gymnasium on home court for a game against Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m.
