Hornets Host Royals For ODAC Showdown

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set to host its final home game of the 2024 calendar year against Eastern Mennonite of Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m.

The Hornets (3-4, 1-1) come into this weekend's contest having won each of its last two outings against NC Wesleyan and Hollins. In the squad's most recent win against Hollins, Lynchburg finished the competition on a 14-2 run to storm ahead in the final six minutes. Senior guard Olivia Harris scored a team-leading 17 points and added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals to help the Hornets claim victory. 

Harris (11.7 points per game), sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn (11.4 ppg.), and junior forward Bree Spainhour (10.5 ppg.) all average double-figure scoring so far this season. Spainhour leads the team in both rebounds and assists with 8.5 boards per game and 5.0 assists per outing. Junior guard Brooke Cason paces the squad in created turnovers with 12 steals and four blocks in seven games this season.

Since 1995, the Hornets trail in the series against the Royals, 28-19. Lynchburg has earned a win in six of the last seven meetings between the two programs, including each of the last two competitions. Last time the teams squared off was Feb. 20, 2024, where the Hornets earned a 67-52 victory. Graduate Sayre Brandstatter produced a double-double en rout to the win, leading the game in both points and rebounds with 17 and 13, respectively.

Eastern Mennonite will enter Saturday's affair with a 6-3 overall record and 0-2 record in conference play. The Royals' last two matchups resulted in losses against ODAC opponents Shenandoah and Randolph-Macon. Sophomore backcourt duo Grace Burke and Jeriyah Osborne pace EMU offensively with 14.4 and 13.7 points per game, respectively. Osborne also leads the squad in steals with 2.3 per contest. Fifth year forward Laila Glymph (9.0 ppg.) runs the glass for the Royals with 9.4 boards per game. 

Following this weekend's game, Lynchburg will travel to Emory, Va. on Tuesday, December 17 to square off against Emory and Henry at 11 a.m. for an exhibition before making a trip to Nashville, Tenn. to face the likes of Franklin & Marshall and Webster on Thursday, December 19 and Friday, December 20.
