Blacksburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team wrapped up its 2024 competition slate at the VT Tournament of Champions IHSA show on Saturday, earning its best finish at the event in program history.
The Hornets earned fifth place overall of 16 teams in the field at today's show. Prior to today's competition, Lynchburg had finished in first place in each of its last four outings. Most recently, the Hornets took first at the VT IHSA with a team total of 38 points.
Sophomore
Clair Humphreys earned a first-place finish and the top spot today for Lynchburg in Novice Flat. The Hornets had two second place finishers in today's show as junior
Ava Jackson claimed second in Limit Fences while freshman
Jessica McElhaney was named second in Limit Flat. Senior
Margaret Stell placed third in fences while and senior
Lucy Metzler was tabbed sixth in Open Flat. Senior
Alexandria Russell claimed fourth and fifth in Intermadiate Flat and Intermediate Fences, respectively.
Lynchburg has closed out its 2024 campaign and is gearing up for its contests in the 2025 calendar year. The spring slate of competitions for the equestrian team will be released at a later date.
