Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell to Washington and Lee 70-60 Wednesday night.
Trey Gillenwater led the Hornets in scoring off the bench with 12 points. Jonathan Foust posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jake Hart stuffed the stat sheet by recording three steals, two blocks, six points, and eight rebounds.
Lynchburg opened the game on a 7-0 run. A jumper from Gillenwater with 3:10 remaining in the first half gave Lynchburg a ten point lead, their biggest of the half. At times, the Generals cut into the Hornet lead, but eight first half points from Foust and a valiant effort on both ends from Jake Hart allowed Lynchburg to enter halftime leading 32-27. In the first half, Lynchburg held Washington and Lee to 8-31 (25%) shooting from the field and outscored Washington and Lee 20-8 in the paint.
Washington and Lee gained their first lead with 17:16 remaining in the first half. Despite this, baskets from Gillenwater, Miles Taylor, and Mason Makovec allowed the Hornets to regain the lead. The Hornets capitalized on second chance opportunities, out-scoring the Generals 18-3 in that category. Unfortunately, the Generals pulled away late in the second half.
Lynchburg (10-14, 5-10 ODAC) will host Averett in their final regular season game on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
