Misenhiemer, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team defeated Pfeiffer 23-1 in seven innings on Wednesday evening.
The Hornets scored their most runs in a game since downing Greensboro 29-7 in 2022. The Hornets scored 15 of their runs in the second inning when they sent 20 batters to the plate. The first 17 Hornets reached base safely in the inning beginning with a solo homer from Quinn Madden. Bryce Demory and Gavin Collins also homered in the inning, and Collins would later hit his second home run of the game in the fifth inning. Lynchburg faced four pitchers in that 15-run inning and three of them didn't record an out. Lynchburg slashed 10 hits, were walked three times, and were hit by four pitchers all in the second inning.
Madden has homered in three straight games and has raised his batting average 67 points in those three contests. He went 3-3 against the Falcons.
11 Hornets recorded hits as the Hornets collected 17 base knocks. The Hornets surpassed that total twice in 2022.
Lynchburg only used two pitchers in the game compared to Pfeiffer's nine arms. Josh Gjormand earned the win pitching five scoreless innings, and Austin Riney finished out the final six outs.
The Hornets (10-5) host Roanoke for a double-header on Saturday, March 16.
