No. 21 baseball sweeps W&L, Gordon walks it off in Game 2

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team swept Washington and Lee at home on Sunday capped off by a walk-off walk from Joe Gordon for a 12-11 win. Lynchburg also won the first game of the day in comeback fashion 9-8.

Lynchburg trailed by five after the top of the fourth in Game 1 but forced a tie by the bottom of the inning. Lynchburg scored five runs in the fourth as Gavin Collins had the game-tying hit, scoring Eric Hiett.

After Washington and Lee responded in the fifth, Logan Webster collected the go-ahead and eventual game-winning home run with a two-run shot in the sixth. His first home run of the year put Lynchburg up 9-8. That lead held thanks to scoreless relief appearances from Nathaniel Mack and Colin McGuire.

In Game 2, the Hornets jumped out to a six-run lead by the end of the second inning. Quinn Madden had four RBIs in his first two trips to the dish early on in Game 2.

Collins homered in the sixth extending the Lynchburg lead to five. Collins went 4-10 on the day with five RBI.

Washington and Lee battled back scoring three in the eighth and four in the ninth seemingly spoiling Lynchburg's Sunday at home. However, Lynchburg mounted its second comeback of the day. Joe Munitz started the bottom of the ninth with a pinch-hit single. Eddie Gimbel worked a pinch-hit walk, then Brandon Garcia scored Munitz with a single. After O'Kelly McWilliams IV reached on a base-hit bunt, and Benton Jones singled Gimbel home, Gordon worked a bases-loaded walk to walk it off against the Generals.

Domenic Rowlands closed out the top of the ninth and earned his third win of the year on the walk-off.

Lynchburg (14-6, 5-2 ODAC) is ranked 21st in the d3baseball.com poll and hosts Methodist on Tuesday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m.
