Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team won its third consecutive comeback victory with a 9-8 win over Methodist Tuesday.
During a six-run seventh inning, Quinn Madden notched the go-ahead hit with a three-RBI double to complete a six-run backpack. Madden was 2-5 with four RBI on the day.
Lynchburg and Methodist traded runs in the first with Brandon Garcia getting the Hornets on the board first. Ryan Long scored on the play and got the start at first as Josh Gjormand made his fourth start on the mound.
Gjormand let up a six-spot in the fourth inning and was pulled for Domenic Rowlands. After Rowlands got through 1.1 innings allowing one run, the Lynchburg bullpen used four arms to shut out the Monarchs. Trent Judd earned the win as he pitched two full innings with three Ks and was the pitcher of record as Lynchburg completed their comeback in the seventh.
Four Hornets had multiple hits on the day led by Benton Jones' 3-4 performance.
The Hornets (15-6, 5-2 ODAC) are ranked 17th in the d3baseball.com poll and visit Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday, March 27 for a conference tilt at 3:30 p.m.
