Newport News, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team fell 22-8 against the Captains of Christopher Newport on Wednesday.
The 15th-ranked Captains jumped Lynchburg for 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added onto their lead in every inning besides the third, fourth, and ninth.
The Hornets hit a trio of home runs coming off the bats of Riley O'Donovan, Eric Hiett, and Ethan Marotske. It was Marotske's third-career hit and first-career homer. The senior also hit safely in the seventh after earning the start in center field. Brandon Garcia and Hiett also multihit days at the plate as well.
Mason McDowell pitched 1.2 innings in relief and fanned two.
The Hornets (18-11) host Averett for a double-header on Saturday, April 13 beginning at noon.
