Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team defeated Hampden-Sydney 10-4 on Tuesday.
The game featured four lead changes with the scoring advantage changing sides all four times before the sixth inning. The Tigers took the first lead in the first inning getting to Colin McGuire. The freshman settled in and pitched into the fifth inning with three runs on his ledger.
The Hornets took the lead for good in the fifth after Brandon Garcia and Benton Jones hit back-to-back singles, Quinn Madden drove Garcia home with a third straight single, and Erick Hiett gave Lynchburg the lead on a sacrifice fly. Jones and Sean Pokorak both had three-hit days, and Nathaniel Mack closed out the 1 2/3 innings for his third save of the year. Mack entered the game in a save situation in the eighth but got the final three outs with Lynchburg up six after three RBI from Jones, Riley O'Donovan, and Pokorak. Logan Webster also homered in the game.
Lynchburg is in fifth place in the conference standings, but third-place Shenandoah and fourth-place Bridgewater both have the same record as Lynchburg. The Hornets (23-13, 12-8) host Mary Washington on Wednesday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m.
