Union, N.J. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team snagged it's first victory of the season when they took down Kean, 2-0, in the final day of the Kean Kickoff Tournament on Saturday evening.
The Hornets started hot, scoring less than 10 minutes into the contest.
Meghan Lauder delivered a feed to
Lauren Orner, who bagged the first Lynchburg goal of the season just 8:22 into the game. Less than a minute before halftime,
Catey Paulette sent in a cross that was deflected off a defender and slipped past the keeper. The Hornets held a two-goal advantage heading into the halftime intermission.
Lynchburg held onto the lead throughout the remainder of the affair. Goalkeeper
Kate Shepherd, who played all 90 minutes, stopped two shots in the final 45 minutes to help the Hornets sustain their edge.
The defense completed another shutout and have not allowed a goal in the squad's two outings this season. Backers Haileigh Casey and
Sammie Rogstad were significant contributors to the team's defensive success, playing the entirety of the contest in the back end.Â
The women's soccer crew now looks forward to their next tournament, the Roanoake Classic, where they will face the likes of Hardin-Simmons and Johns Hopkins. The Hornets will square off against the Cowgirls on Saturday, September 7 at 4:30 p.m. before taking on the Blue Jays on Sunday, Septmeber 8 at 4:30 p.m. Both games will have a live stream and live stats available for fans to stay up to date.Â
