Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Loses to No. 17 Johns Hopkins

Salem, Va. - The Lynchburg women's soccer team faced off against two top-25 teams this weekend at the Roanoke Classic. The Hornets suffered a 2-3 loss vs. #17 Hardin-Simmons on Saturday and a 4-1 defeat on Sunday to #18 Johns Hopkins.

Lynchburg would strike first in the opening matchup against the Cowgirls off a goal from Madelyn Boyce at the 7:30 mark. However, Hardin-Simmons would claim two goals of their own in the first half, taking a 2-1 lead to the break.

Boyce would strike once again with 30 minutes left in regulation to tie the game at two goals a piece.

But a Hardin-Simmons goal just nine minutes later would ultimately serve as the game-winner for the Cowgirls.

In the Hornets' second and final game of the Roanoke Classic, Lynchburg took the pitch with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays.

Johns Hopkins would get on the board first with a goal from Irene Sanchez Burgueño at the 30:20 mark.

But Lynchburg would quickly respond. Less than seven minutes later, Ella Tampio-Iorns found the back of the net for the equalizer.

However, the Blue Jays reclaimed the lead halfway through the second half and then again 30 seconds later off a penalty kick. Johns Hopkins would add one more goal to their total at 87:12 to walk away with a dominant victory.

The Hornets now sit at 1-2-1 and look ahead to their home opener next Saturday, Sept. 14, against Marymount.
