Danville, Va. - After a strong start on day one of the Cougar Classic, winning their first two matches, the Hornets returned to Danville for two more matches.
Lynchburg began the day facing off against the Bob Jones Bruins. Lynchburg and Bob Jones went back and forth, trading blows early in the first set. However, the Bruins closed out the first frame on a 6-1 run, claiming a 25-23 victory.
From that point on, the Hornets found another gear and controlled the remainder of the match.
Lynchburg would go on to win the next three sets of match, 25-18, 26-24, and 25-21, moving to 1-0 on the day and 3-0 thus far in the season.
The Hornets finished their first game of the day with four different players with double-digit kills, Bree Spainhour led the team with 16. Jaina Leek and Kyrie Thibodeau were also crucial pieces in the Lynchburg attack, each with over 20 assists.
Shortly after their first match of the day, Lynchburg retook the court to take on Methodist.
From the opening serve, the Lions controlled throughout the entirety of the match. Methodist jumped out in front early during the first frame and cruised from that point on.
The Lions would quickly sweep Lynchburg taking the first, second, and third sets 25-13, 25-14, and 25-16.
Despite leaving the tournament on a sour note, Lynchburg was able to start the season strong, securing a 3-1 record through their opening weekend.
The Hornets will continue their road trip, facing Southern Virginia University, on Tuesday, Sep. 3 in Buena Vista, Va.
