Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team completed its third shutout of the season and scored three second-half goals to earn a 3-0 victory against Marymount in Lynchburg's home opener on Saturday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
The Hornet (2-2-1) defense was stout throughout the entirety of the affair, allowing just four shots all contest and one on cage. The offense was just as impressive, firing off 20 total shots with seven hitting the goal frame.
In the 52nd minute, midfielder
Morgan Oliver buried the first goal of the outing, her first of the season and third of her collegiate career. 36 seconds later, forward
Hannah Phillips sent a ball to
Lauren Orner, who finished the shot for her second goal of the season and the Hornets' second goal of the game. In the final nine minutes of the game, forward
Catey Paulette notched her first-career goal off a feed from defender
Elora Grochowski that settled the score for good.Â
After two tough matchups against top-20 talent last weekend, the Hornets bounced back with a commanding triumph. Lynchburg now looks ahead to its next game against Emory on Sunday, September 22 at 2 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C. The competition will be streamed live and have live stats available.Â
