Charlotte, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team scored early but conceded two goals in the second half and lost to Emory, 2-1, on Sunday evening at the Charlotte Soccer Academy.
The Hornets (2-3-1) came out hot against the Eagles as
Madelyn Boyce netted her third goal of the season at the 2:58-mark. From then on, neither side was able to convert for the remainder of the first half. In the 67th minute, Emory equalized with a goal from Emily Woodall. Six minutes later, Mikalya Camp found the back of the net and gave the Eagles the lead for good.Â
Lynchburg's
Meredith Bowers took the role of netminder in the affair and stopped eight shots all contest. She has 23 saves on the season for a .767 save percentage. Sophia Garcia was between the pipes for Emory and finished with four saves.Â
Next up for the Hornets is a road match against Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. Following that matchup, Lynchburg heads into conference play, starting with a home bout versus Guilford on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m.
