Winchester, Va.- For the first time this season, the Lynchburg Hornets (7-7) swept their opponent in three sets, taking down Shenandoah (6-7) on the road.
Entering this match, the Hornets were searching for their first conference win of the year. Led by junior setter, Jaina Leek, Lynchburg cruised in all three sets, with the offense operating like clockwork.
To begin the first frame, Shenandoah would jump out in front of the Hornets with a 6-1 advantage. From that point on, however, Lynchburg began to trade almost every point two for one. The Hornets claimed the first set 25-18.
Lynchburg wouldn't allow Shenandoah to get off to an early lead in the second, taking a quick 6-1 lead for themselves to begin. Nonetheless, this frame was highlighted with a commanding 11-1 run during the middle of the set which capitulated Lynchburg to a 25-12 victory.
Shortly after, the Hornets would slam the door shut. Leek continued to dish out assists all over the floor; she finished the day with 28 assists, a three-set career-high.
Lynchburg's offense continued to pound the Shenandoah defense, winning the third and final frame 25-12.
The Hornets continue their conference play this Wednesday, September 25, as they host Averett in Turner Gymnasium.
The two squads are set to take the pitch at 2 pm for what should be a thrilling contest.
