Brookhaven, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer squad came away with a 1-1 draw against Oglethorpe in its final contest of the John P. Salamone Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets (0-1-2) concluded the match and earned their second draw of the season. Each side delivered strikes in the first half, but neither team was able to convert their shots to goals. The sole shot on frame in the first 45 minutes came from the Stormy Petrels, which was stopped by goalkeeper
Thomas Viscuso.Â
In the 58th minute, Midfielders
Zach Whelan and
Pat Figaro connected for the first goal of the outing. Whelan fed a ball into Figaro who then buried the shot in the back of the net. The 2023 Third-Team All-ODACÂ player's strike marked his first goal of the season. With just under 10 minutes left to play, Oglethorpe leveled the score as Adrian Levy got one past Viscuso.Â
The shots and saves for both sides were fairly even throughout the affair. Lynchburg finished with 10 shots and three on goal while Oglethorpe had 13 strikes and three on cage. Each goalkeeper made two saves in the competition.Â
Lynchburg's men's soccer crew looks ahead to its next matchup, its first of the season on Shellenberger Field. The Hornets will square up against William and Peace on Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m. The match will have live stats available and will be streamed live on the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network YouTube channel.Â
