Hornets Host Yellow Jackets In Midweek Matchup

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set to return to Turner Gymnasium for the first time in over a month to square up against Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, January 15 at 5 p.m.

The Hornets (6-6, 3-2) come into this matchup having won its last affair against Virginia Wesleyan, 65-56. In that contest, junior forward Bree Spainhour led the team offensively with a season-best 19 points. Freshman guard Audra Petty was close behind with 18 points, while guards Kate Littlejohn, a sophomore, and senior Olivia Harris contributed 10 points each. 

Last time these two sides competed on the hardwood, Lynchburg claimed a 69-63 victory in double overtime on Jan. 3, 2024. Current junior guard Brooke Cason scored a season-high 19 points in the outing to help lead the Hornets to victory. Since 1995, the Yellow Jackets own a 49-24 advantage in the series over Lynchburg. 

Through 12 games, Spainhour leads the team with 12.0 points per game. Harris (11.1 ppg.) and Littlejohn (10.7 ppg.) are the other two Lynchburg performers who average double-figure scoring. Petty (9.8 ppg.) ranks atop the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at .446 percent. The Hornets allow the lowest percentage of made 3-pointser in the ODAC at .216 percent while scoring from beyond the arc at the fourth-highest rate (.284 percent). 

Senior guard Juliana Park paces RMC on the offensive side with 12.6 points per affair, which ranks eighth best in the ODAC. Senior guard Catherine Cagey and junior forward McKenzie Matheny also average double-digit scoring with 10.8 and 10.5 points per outing, respectively. As a group, the Yellow Jacket have the best rebounding margin in the conference at +11.1 per game. The squad averages 41.7 boards per contest and holds opponents to 30.6 per game. 

Following tomorrow's competition, Lynchburg will hit the road again to take on Shenandoah on Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m.
