Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team hits the road this weekend to take on conference adversary Shenandoah on Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m.
The Hornets (6-7, 3-3) returned home to face Randolph-Macon earlier this week and fell, 60-46. Junior forward
Bree Spainhour scored a team-high 16 points with senior guard
Olivia Harris close behind with 14 points. RMC had Catherine Kagey produce a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Yellow Jackets took a 5-point lead from the jump and did not trail for the remainder of the game.
Since 2010, Shenandoah has a slight edge in the series with Lynchburg, 11-9. The last six meetings between the two squads has resulted in wins for Shenandoah, most recently with a 55-42 finish on Feb. 23, 2024 in the ODAC quarterfinal round. The Hornets will look to snap the six-game skid in the series with a victory this weekend.
Three Lynchburg performers have averaged double-figure scoring this season: Spainhour (12.4 points per game), Harris (11.3 ppg.) and sophomore guard
Kate Littlejohn (10.1 ppg.). Spainhour's scoring average is the 10th-best mark in the ODAC and her shooting percentage (.485 percent) ranks sixth in the conference. Freshman guard
Audra Petty (9.3 ppg.) remains atop the conference in 3-point percentage with .433 percent.
Shenandoah houses the top scorer in the conference this season, Terese Greene, who scores 22.6 points per outing and is the only athlete in the ODAC who averages 20-or-more points per game. As a squad, Shenandoah averages the second-most points per game in the conference at 71.9 per affair. Although Shenandoah has the best 3-point percentage in the ODAC this season with .297 percent, Lynchburg holds opponents to the lowest field goal percentage from beyond the arc at .228 percent.Â
Following tomorrow's contest, the Hornets will take on Randolph on Wednesday, January 22 at 5 p.m.Â
