Hornets Set For Hill City Clash

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is ready to take on rival Randolph in a battle of the Hill City on Wednesday, January 22 at 5 p.m.

The Hornets (6-8, 3-4) come into this midweek matchup after a narrow loss to Shenandoah, 50-48. Lynchburg closed a seven-point gap in the fourth quarter to come within one point of SU, but ultimately was unable to complete the comeback effort. The backcourt duo of sophomore Kate Littlejohn and freshman Audra Petty each tallied 12 points to lead the team offensively and swiped two steals. Petty grabbed a team-high eight boards. Junior guard Brooke Cason was a significant contributor with eight points, two steals and two blocks.

Since 1998, Lynchburg owns a 28-6 advantage in the series against the Wildcats. The Hornets won 21 straight games from Jan. 15, 2010 through Dec. 8, 2021. The last time these two squads square off on the hardwood, Randolph claimed a 64-40 victory on Nov. 15, 2023. Lynchburg will look for revenge in this rivalry tomorrow.

So far this season, junior forward Bree Spainhour leads the Hornets on the offensive side with 11.6 points per game. She also grabs a team-best 6.2 rebounds per affair. Senior guard Olivia Harris scores 10.9 points per outing and leads the team in both assists with 36 and steals with 22. Littlejohn rounds out Lynchburg performers averaging double-figures with 10.2 points per game.

The Wildcats are paced offensively by graduate guard Kylie Stark, who averages 14.6 points per game, the fifth-best mark in the ODAC. She also averages 2.8 assists per contest, which is tied for ninth in the conference this season.

Shots from long range will be key in tomorrow's contest as Randolph ranks second in the ODAC in 3-point field goal percentage at .291 and Lynchburg ranks atop the conference in opponent 3-point percentage at .213. The Hornets are third in the ODAC in 3-point percentage (.275) while the Wildcats are second in opponent field goal percentage (.233).

Lynchburg returns home after tomorrow's matchup to take on Bridgewater on Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m.
