Hardeeville, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team got back into action this weekend with the SCAD Tournament of Champions IHSA, hosted by SCAD-Savannah, and placed sixth out of 13 teams on Saturday.
The Hornets returned to competition for the first time in the new year and had a solid performance, including two first-place individual finishes.
Ava Jackson earned a first-place spot in Limit Fences, while
Clair Humphreys claimed first in Novice Flat.
Jessica McElhaney finished in third in Intermediate Flat and was the final Hornet performer to earn a spot in the top three.
McKenzie Burch claimed fourth place in Limit Flat, while
Alexandria Russell earned fourth-place finishes in Open Flat and Intermediate Fences.
Elle Nutting was the sixth-place finisher in Open Fences and rounds out Lynchburg performers at the show.
The next IHSA for Lynchburg will be the VT IHSA Show from Saturday, February 15 through Sunday, February 16. The equestrian crew has its first NCEA meet in nearly two months when the Hornets travel south to Columbia, S.C. to take out South Carolina on Friday, January 31 at noon.
