Generals Win at the Horn

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Hornets dropped their third consecutive game in Turner, falling to the Washington & Lee Generals, 74-73.

Jake Hart finished with the first double-double of his career, recording 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Michael Gray led the team in scouring, adding another 20-point game to his season. Van Nellessen tallied a season-high 16 points on an extremely efficient day from the floor. Jamarcus Brown had a spectacular all-around performance, collecting 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.

In the first half, Lynchburg struggled to shoot from all over the floor. However, a handful of Washington & Lee turnovers kept Lynchburg within striking distance. The Hornets went to the locker room shooting 32% from the field and 8% from three. However, a late 8-0 before the horn helped them cut the lead to four.

In the second half, the Lynchburg offense started to catch fire. Gray erupted from three, drilling four consecutive shots from the perimeter. Nonetheless, the Generals always seemed to have a response to keep the game competitive. AJ Thomas finished with a game-high 23 points, connecting on six-of-10 three-pointers. Thomas was one of four Generals to tally 12 or more points.

After a miss on the front end of a one-and-one free throw attempt, the Generals claimed possession with five seconds remaining, down by a point. Junior forward Colin Ryan went the length of the floor, drove with his left, faded away over the outreached arms of the six-foot-nine Nellessen, and banked in a game-winner with 0.1 reaming.

This game drops Lynchburg to 10-8 (4-5) with a tough two-game road stint ahead of them. Lynchburg will begin their road trip with a contest in Greensboro, N.C. against Guilford.
