Blythewood, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team resumed NCEA competition against South Carolina on Friday and dropped, 8-2.
The single discipline No. 2 Hornets (4-2) matched up against the dual discipline No. 8 Gamecocks. Since Lynchburg's NCEA squad is single discipline and South Carolina's team is dual discipline, the overall outcome of the meet does not count towards the team record, but will count towards individual records.Â
Junior
Abby Zemp secured the lone team point in the Fences for the Hornets with a score of 80 riding MJ and beat out her opponent, Alyssa Bauer, by two. Senior
Lucy Metzler and sophomore
Rebecca Collier also put together strong performances with scores of 79 and 78, respectively. South Carolina claimed four team points in fences to Lynchburg's one.
In the Flat, Metzler snagged a team point with a score of 71 riding Tanner, beating out Sarah Rabb by five. Zemp, sophomore
Devyn Borden, and senior
Emma Schweizer all notched scores of 70-or-more. Schweizer had the highest score for Lynchburg in the Flat with a 75 riding Campino, followed close behind by Borden with a 74 riding Nano and Zemp with a 70 riding MJ.Â
The Hornets jump right back into action tomorrow to face another dual discipline squad in Georgia on Saturday, February 1 in Athens, Ga. starting at 10 a.m.
