Lynchburg Sweeps Averett to Stay Unbeaten at Home

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg volleyball team kept rolling Wednesday night with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Averett inside Turner Gymnasium.

The Hornets (18-2) remained unbeaten at home this season (7-0) and extended their win streak to three matches with set scores of 25-15, 25-6, and 25-18. Lynchburg also claimed their second consecutive sweep and ninth overall on the year.

Lynchburg's attack was efficient all evening, hitting .282 as a team while holding the Cougars to a -.139 mark. Leah DiNardo led the Hornets with 11 kills, followed by Ava Meinhardt with 9 and Kailey Keough with 5. Tori Williamson sparked the service game with five aces, and Kate Hardie added four.

Meinhardt and Hardie also controlled the net defensively, combining for nine total blocks, while Williamson anchored the back line with a team-leading 12 digs.

The opening set began as a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading points early before Lynchburg found its rhythm midway through. Strong serving from Williamson helped ignite an 8-0 run that pushed the Hornets ahead for good, taking the first frame 25-15.

Lynchburg carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a commanding 10-1 lead and cruising to an emphatic 25-6 win. The Hornets tallied 12 kills with just three errors, while Averett managed only two kills in the frame.

In the final set, Lynchburg once again started fast, building a 10-4 lead and maintaining control the rest of the way to secure the 25-18 victory and the sweep.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 18-2 overall and 6-1 in ODAC play, staying firmly in contention near the top of the conference standings. Lynchburg will look to keep its home dominance alive when it hosts Roanoke (9-10) on Friday, Oct. 17.
