ASHLAND, Va.-- The Lynchburg Hornets secured their tenth three-set victory, and third in the past four games, defeating Randolph-Macon 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-21), inside Crenshaw GymnasiumÂ
This marks the 12th time in program history, dating back to 1973, the Hornets (20-2) have claimed 20 wins in the season. It is the first time in over a decade, most recently accomplished in 2012 with a 24-10 record. With six regular season games remaining, and more than likely postseason as well, the Hornets are well within striking distance for the most wins in a single season, with 26 set in 1981.Â
Lynchburg's offense was balanced throughout the night, led by Kate Hardie with a team-high nine kills. Kailey Keough and Leah DiNardo each added seven kills, while Hardie and Cassi Blackmore both tallied two aces.Alexis Scipione paced the attack with 18 assists, and Kailey Keough chipped in 12 more.
Defensively, Ava Meinhardt anchored the front line with four and a half blocks, and Blackmore collected a team-best 14 digs to go along with Hardie's 12. Lynchburg held Randolph-Macon to just a .022 hitting percentage, with only two players finishing with a net positive attacking percenatge, and out-digging the Yellow Jackets 28–19.
The Hornets will head to Stevenson, Md. for a pair of matches on Saturday, Oct. 25 against Stevenson and Rutgers-Camden.Â
