Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team claimed first place on both days of the Lynchburg IHSA this past weekend in the home ring of the Lynchburg Equestrian Center.
The Hornets were the best team in the first day of competition with a total score of 45 points, then followed up with another first-place finish with 43 points on day two. On Saturday, the Hornets controlled the field from start to finish. Lynchburg riders delivered strong showings across every class. In Open Fences,
Amaya Bellfield claimed first in the B class while
Zoey Horn placed second in the A class. Additionally, Bellfield took second place in Open Flat.
Ivy Cole grabbed a first-place finish in Intermediate Fences A and
Ava Jackson claimed second in Intermediate Flat A.Â
Lynchburg captured two wins in Limit Fences, Jackson in the B class and
Jessica McElhaney in the C class. In Limit Flat, the Hornets earned two first-place finishes and a second-place ribbon as
Mackenzie Overstreet and McElhaney earned first in classes B and C, respectively.Â
Kriston Parr took second in Limit Flat A.
Alexandra Miller claimed another top spot for Lynchburg in Novice B, while
Annabella Shores took third in Novice A to round out a consistent day.
The team followed with another victory on Sunday, beating out the other eight competing teams and earning six first-place finishes. Horn and Bellfield returned to earn points again in Open Fences A and B, respectively. Bellfield added another top finish in Open Flat B. Jackson claimed another second-place finish in Intermediate Fences A while McElhaney took first in Intermediate Flat B. She added another top finish in Limit Fences B and
McKenzie Burch took second in Limit Fences A.
Adam Matejko and
Ava Hogan were top-three finishers in Limit Flat as Hogan placed second in class B and Matejko placed third in class A. Lynchburg completed their weekend with two second-place spots and one first.
Clair Humphreys took the top spot in Novice B while Ashlynn Barksdale and
Sophia Schorr earned second in Novice A and Introductory, repsectively.
With balanced contributions throughout the lineup, Lynchburg's depth and consistency shone in the home ring. The Hornets' IHSA team will look to build on the momentum as they prep for their next show at Hollins in Roanoke, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
