Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's basketball team fell in its home opener inside Turner Gymnasium, dropping a tightly contested offensive battle to Pfeiffer, 89-95.
Sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown led the way for the Hornets with a career day, posting a career-high 27 points on 13-for-21 shooting. Brown added six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks to his nightly total. Piercen Young recorded his second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Deondre Ross and Tyler Buggs provided crucial sparks with 11 points each in just nine minutes of action.
The contest began with a dominant stretch from the Hornets, who controlled points in the paint and the battle on the glass.
However, the Falcons began to catch fire from the perimeter midway through the opening 20 minutes. Pfeiffer connected on seven of 13 (53%) three-point attempts and shot 60% from the field to take a nine-point lead into the break.
Nevertheless, Lynchburg's offense continued to fight, and its defense began to cause problems for Pfeiffer in the second half. A 1-3-1 zone from Hillary Scott and company quickly disrupted the Falcons' offensive rhythm and cooled them down from deep, allowing Lynchburg to inch back into the contest.
After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, the Hornets regained the lead at 78-77, their first advantage since 25-23. The two sides traded punches the rest of the way, entering the final minute tied at 89.
But a late Lynchburg turnover created a breakaway layup for Pfeiffer, putting the Falcons back in front. With a chance to respond in the final moments, another Hornet turnover ultimately sealed the game and secured the win for Pfeiffer.
Lynchburg stays at home for its next matchup, taking on Regent on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m.
