Jordan Soars to Individual Title at NCAA South Regional

Salem, Va. – Alex Jordan manufactured a 24:15.2 personal-best performance at the NCAA South Region Championships to capture the individual title and propel Lynchburg to a second-place men's finish, while the women's team clinched fifth in the team standings.

Leading the men's 8k coast-to-coast, Jordan dominated the field with a 17-second victory. The sophomore sprinted into the lead from the gun, and to close the race, accelerated with a 2:47 final kilometer.

Jordan broke the 25-minute barrier at the Paul Short Run earlier in the season with a 24:32.1 performance. With the region title, Jordan has progressed 50 seconds from his 2024 personal best.

Graduate student Johnathan Cobb funneled into the top ten with a 24:43.4 performance for ninth, while Randy White clocked 24:50.6 for 11th.

Aidan Riggle registered a 25:12.4 16th-place performance, and to close the scoring, Jack Weddle crossed the line in 25:27.8 for 20th.

The men's team tallied 57 points, trailing only Washington & Lee which scored 39 points. 24 teams competed in the men's race.

In the women's 6k, Mya Baker led Lynchburg's scoring efforts with a 23:16.5 personal best for 32nd place to clinch all-region honors. Hannah Edwards posted a season-best 23:20.1, following closely behind for 33rd.

Delaney Saulsbury clocked 23:24.8 to place 36th in the field, and newcomer Winter Tietjen crossed the line in 23:31.4 to register a personal best. Tietjen joined Lynchburg's team in the regular season while competing for the Lynchburg equestrian team throughout the fall.

Jordan DiRisio became Lynchburg's fifth finisher with a 23:41.1 performance for 46th. Lynchburg tallied 182 points to earn fifth, one position ahead of the team's projected finish despite racing without sophomore  Adelynn Carpenter.

The Hornets' top-five finishers boasted a 24-second spread while crossing the line within a span of 15 positions.

Lynchburg awaits its postseason fate as the NCAA Championships selections will be unveiled on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3:00 p.m.
