Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 12 Hornets Thwart Eagles; Advance To Third Straight ODAC Title Game

Lynchburg, Va. -- Following a thrilling 3-0 victory for a sixth consecutive win, the University of Lynchburg men's soccer team triumphed against Bridgewater to advance to its third ODAC Championship match in as many years for a chance to compete for the team's 20th ODAC Title.

The No. 13 Hornets earned their 12th shutout of the season to tie the second-most in a season in program history, which was most recently achieved last year. With 15 total wins, this year's Lynchburg squad ties the seventh-highest number of victories in a single season.

Sean DeLorenzo broke open the scoring with a screamer from outside the box. After a ricochet following Lynchburg a corner sent the ball outside the 18, DeLorenzo struck a high-flyer in the 37th minute that lofted into the top right 90. The Hornets held onto the one-goal edge throughout the remainder of the first half and held the Eagles to just one shot in the first 45 minutes of play.

Out of the intermission, both sides battled with aggression as they combined for 13 total fouls in the second half, nine more than the first half. The Hornets capitalized on another corner kick as Evan Pask found the noggin of Matthew Viscuso, who punched it forward into the upper corner for his second collegiate goal. Lynchburg added insurance late on yet another corner chance as Felipe Rodriguez delivered to Bruno Rihl Silva for the final score of the affair.

Lynchburg paired exciting offense with stout defense for the win, firing off 20 shots - 10 of which were on frame - and allowing just two to Bridgewater. The Hornets' 11 corner kicks proved vital to the success of the squad as all three goals came from those set pieces.

Freshman netminder Zane Kowalski tallied a solid seven stops in today's affair for BC. Lynchburg goalkeeper Thomas Viscuso was only challenged with one shot on target, but he made the stop to claim his 26th career shutout, overtaking Michael Releford for sole position of the third-most career shutouts in program history.

The Hornets are set to meet the Washington and Lee Generals on Shellenberger Field for the ODAC Championship bout this Saturday, Nov. 8 at a to-be-determined time. This matchup will be the third straight ODAC title match between Lynchburg and WLU, and the second consecutive year that the conference championship game between the sides will be played on Shellenberger Field.
