Lynchburg Defeats Regent, 75-32

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team had 12 different student-athletes contribute points in a decisive 75-32 victory over Regent on Tuesday afternoon inside Turner Gym.

The Hornets (7-2) controlled the game from the opening tip and led wire-to-wire, holding Regent scoreless for long stretches while building a 43-11 halftime advantage. Lynchburg set the tone defensively in the first quarter, limiting Regent to just four points on one-of-14 shooting. The Hornets capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities, opening the game on a 21-4 run through the first period. Lynchburg followed with a strong second quarter, outscoring Regent 22-7 to take a 32-point lead into the break.

The Hornets continued to extend the margin after halftime, scoring 22 points in the third quarter while holding Regent to eight. Lynchburg pushed the lead as high as 50 points late in the third and maintained control throughout the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Lynchburg shot .424 percent from the field and finished with a 47-33 rebounding advantage. The Hornets also forced 27 Regent turnovers, converting them into 32 points, and added 25 fast-break points. Lynchburg held a 39-1 edge in bench scoring.

Aly Schaffer led Lynchburg with 12 points, while Audra Petty added 11 points. Bree Spainhour contributed 10 points in just under 15 minutes of action. Taylor Brown added nine points while Madison Hoffman, Selah Parker, and Natalie Poole each contributed six points.

Defensively, Lynchburg limited Regent to .188 percent shooting for the game and just .143 percent from 3-point range. The Hornets recorded 12 steals and four blocks while holding Regent to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.

The Hornets have a brief holiday break in their schedule before returning to action in the new year, taking on home contests against Johnson & Wales and Emory on Friday, Jan. 2 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m., respectively.
