Hornets Throttle Pride, 107-71

LYNCHBURG, Va -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday afternoon, rolling past Greensboro College, 107-71, to conclude the Wayne Profit Classic. 

Sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown led all scorers with 22 points on an efficient 10-of-13 shooting night while pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds to record his fifth double-double this year. Brown anchored the Hornets (7-4) in the paint as Lynchburg out rebounded Greensboro (3-7), 46-29, and scored 52 points in the paint.

Senior guard Piercen Young and graduate guard Michael Gray each added 13 points, combining to go 9-of-12 from the field. Young knocked down two triples and added three rebounds, while Gray drained three shots from beyond the arc. Jake Hart team-best six assists as Lynchburg moved the ball effectively, finishing with 15 assists on 40 made field goals.

The Hornets shot a scorching 59.7 percent from the floor and 47.8 percent from three-point range, in the opening half. Hart banked home a lay in with just over three minuets remaining in the half, then leading to a 12-2 Lynchburg run to pull away for a 48-34 halftime advantage.

Lynchburg turned up the pressure coming out of the break, outscoring the Pride 59-37 and building the lead to as many as 37 points. In the second half, the Hornets put on their best offensive 20 minuets of the season, shooting 20-31 (64.5%) from the floor, 6-10 (60.0%) from three, and 13-15 (86.7%) from the free throw line. 

Elijah Thomas provided a spark off the bench with seven points, four rebounds, two steals, and a block, while Deondre Ross added eight points and a pair of steals. All together, Lynchburg scored 51 points off the bench on the afternoon.The Hornets forced 14 turnovers, tallied seven steals, and blocked three shots in a complete team effort as they cruised to the convincing victory.

The win concludes Lynchburg's regular season non-conference slate and their set of games for the 2025 calender year. The Hornets will be back in action in 2026 on Jan. 2 in Ashland, Va. against No. 2 Randolph-Macon.
