Women's Basketball Hosts Virginia Wesleyan For Code Red

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team has its Code Red game up next when Virginia Wesleyan comes to Turner Gymnasium on Thursday, February 13 at 5 p.m.

The Hornets (7-13, 4-9) originally were meant to play this contest on Wednesday, but due to inclement weather, the outing had to be moved to tomorrow. Last time out, Lynchburg dropped its meeting against No. 21 Washington and Lee on the road, 91-57. Prior to that, the Hornets hosted Averett and came away with a 73-45 victory.

The last eight times the Marlins and Hornets squared off on the hardwood have all resulted in Lynchburg triumphs, including earlier this season with a 65-56 finish on Jan. 12, 2025. In that affair, junior forward Bree Spainhour and freshman guard Audra Petty combined for 37 points, scoring 19 and 18, respectively. Since 1996, the Marlins own a 30-24 advantage in the series against Lynchburg.

VWU has a 5-15 overall record and 1-12 record in conference play this season. The Marlins ride a seven-game skid into tomorrow's competition, having last won against Averett on January 15. Graduate guard leads the team in scoring with an average of 11.8 points per game. Freshman forward Brianna Long is the other Marlin performer averaging double-figures with 10.3 points per outing. Long also grabs a team-best 8.5 boards per affair.

Senior Olivia Harris and Spainhour are neck-and-neck in scoring average this season with 11.3 and 11.2 points per game, respectively. Sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn also averages double-digits with 10.1 points per affair. As a squad, Lynchburg shots the three at a significant clip making 6.7 3-pointers per game, which is the second-best mark in the ODAC. Petty, Littlejohn, and junior guard Brooke Cason help facilitate that by averaging at least 1.4 from long range per game.

Following tomorrow's Code Red matchup, the Hornets have their final road trip of the regular season when they visit Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m.
