Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's lacrosse team begins its 2025 campaign on Shellenberger against Gettysburg on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m.
Last season, these teams faced off in the regular season opener as well. Gettysburg got the best of the Hornets, 15-10. The Bullets' attack Ethan Kessler finished with a game-high 4 goals.
Gettysburg finished last season 10-8, with a 4-4 record in Centennial Conference play. The Bullets also went 3-6 against ranked opponents. Despite a challenging schedule and a few stanout victories, the Bullets did not earn an NCAA tournament appearance after falling in their conference championship to Dickenson.
The Gettysburg defense is anchored by two-time First Team All-CC and Preseason All-American Frank Barbera. Also receiving preseason All-American recognition is Second Team attackman Jack Dunleavy and Honorable Mention LSM Will Hedley.
The Hornets are coming off a 15-6 (8-1) finish in 2024, which included an ODAC championship and an NCAA third-round appearance. This year's group earned a spot in the national preseason poll, landing at #12/#13 and #2 in the conference poll.
Lynchburg returns a significant amount of production from a season ago. Fifth-year midfielder Jake Rust was appointed to the USILA and Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Second Team. Juniors Riley Hastings, Luke Meadows, and Spencer Vandenberg were all named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Honorable Mentions.
This contest will be the first of three at home for the Hornets to begin their season. Their next matchup will be against Pfeiffer next Saturday, Feb. 22.
