No. 17/17 Men's Lacrosse Welcomes Pfeiffer To Shellenberger Field

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team is set for its second outing of the season when Pfeiffer visits Shellenberger Field on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m.

The No. 17/17 Hornets (0-1) opened the 2025 campaign with a top-20 battle against then-ranked No. 19/17 Gettysburg last weekend in monsoon-like conditions. Lynchburg dropped that affair, 16-9. Fifth year midfielder and preseason All-American Jake Rust tallied a hat trick to lead all Hornet performers offensively. Sophomore midfielder Brodie Mason and freshman middie Van Tanguay each produced multi-point games with one goal and one assist apiece.

Since 1993, the Hornets and Falcons have squared off just three times, two of which were in the past four years in the NCAA tournament. Each of the meetings between the programs have resulted in Lynchburg victories, most recently with a 24-8 finish on May 11, 2024. The prior matchup was on May 15, 2021, where the Hornets claimed a 26-11 triumph.

Pfeiffer has started their spring season with an even 1-1 record, defeating SCAD-Savannah, 21-5, and losing to Hampden-Sydney, 20-13. Midfielder Trent Orr leads the team in points with four in each of the two contests, including four goals against Hampden-Syndey. Attackman Khyler Johnson is close behind with seven total points, five of which came in the loss to Hampden-Sydney on two goals and three assists. Last season, the Falcons finished 12-7 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Lynchburg.

Although the Hornets did not start the season with a win as hoped, they remain ranked within the top 20 nationally. Last season, Lynchburg finished with a 15-6 overall record and an ODAC championship title. The Hornets will look to bounce back this weekend on what projects to be a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Following tomorrow's affair, Lynchburg will take on No. 3/2 Salisbury in the squad's third consecutive competition on the home turf. The elite bout will take place on Shellenberger Field on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m.
