Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets closed out their regular season in an overtime loss to Virginia Wesleyan, 66-75
Michael Gray finished with a team-high 15 points. The other Hornets reached double figures:Â Â
Jonathan Foust (12),
Elijah Thomas (11), and
John Henderson (10). Thomas also recorded a double-double, with an incredible defensive effort, tallying 10 rebounds and four steals.Â
In the opening half, the Hornets played a physical brand of basketball on both ends of the floor. Relentless defense from the Lynchburg zone defense gave the Marlins trouble. Hillary Scott and the Hornets took a six-point advantage to the intermission, 32-26.
Within seconds of the next half, the Marlins began to catch fire from the perimeter.  A barrage of threes catapulted Va. Wesleyan back out in front. Khai Seargeant found his rhythm from long range, finishing with 22 points and five three-pointers.Â
Down 11 points with seven minutes reaming, Lynchburg began to chip away at the lead, going on a 13-4 run. Down by two with 4 seconds remaining, Gray sunk a mid-range jump shot to force overtime.Â
In overtime, the Marlins scored on their opening possession and led until the final buzzer.Â
The Hornets now turn to the postseason for the ODAC tournament. No.7Â Lynchburg will face No.2 Hampen-Sydney on Wednesday, Feb. 26, for their first-round contest.
