Lynchburg, Va. -- A rally of 10 straight goals in the first period allowed the University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team to storm past Virginia Wesleyan, 25-3, on Saturday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
The No. 15 Hornets (3-4, 1-0) scored 10 consecutive goals to open the contest and did not allow an opponent goal for the first 19:50 of the affair. Fifth year middie
Jake Rust tallied a hat trick during the stretch to lead the Lynchburg offense.
Following a Marlins goal at the 10:10-mark in the second quarter, the Hornets rattled off another run of 10 unanswered goals. Lynchburg held VWU scoreless until three minutes left in the third period. After trading goals to end the quarter, Lynchburg scored four more in the final 15 minutes and did not allow another goal.
