Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team showed out for its graduating class with a commanding 25-1 victory against Averett on Saturday night at Shellenberger Field.
The No. 13 Hornets (8-5, 5-1) bounced back after a narrow loss to Washington and Lee earlier this week. Lynchburg tied its highest goal total of the season at 25 goals. The other occasion was at home against Virginia Wesleyan on March 22, where the Hornets won 25-3.
Freshman
Will Rubley tallied a team-high six points in tonight's affair on five goals and one assist, a collegiate-best effort. Sophomore
Brodie Mason also netted five goals in the contest which marked a career-high. Freshman Van Taguay put together a one-goal, three-assist performance tonight for the third-most points on the team. Five other Hornet athletes produced three-point games:
Ryan Hildebrand (3g),
Matthew Patrone (1g, 2a),
Kayden Hinchey (1g, 2a),
Charlie Evans (2g, 1a), and
Carter Besz (2g, 1a).
As a squad, Lynchburg tallied at least five goals in each period. The Hornets went into the halftime break with an 11-0 advantage. Out of the break, Lynchburg scored nine goals in the third period to extend its lead to 20-0 by the end of the period. The Hornets slowed down the offensive possessions in the final 15-minute stretch, scoring five times.
Next up on the slate for the men's lacrosse team is a road matchup against Shenandoah on Wednesday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
