Hornets Close Out Weekend With Scoreless Draw Vs. Vikings

Maryville, Tenn. -- To wrap up a weekend swing in the Volunteer State, the University of Lynchburg men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against the Berry Vikings on Sunday afternoon at the MC Sports Complex.

Today's result follows a solid two-goal victory against the Maryville Scots to begin the 2025 campaign. Though the match concluded with a stalemate, the Hornets earned their second clean sheet of the year in as many games. The Hill City squad dictated much of the match, finishing with a 14-2 edge in total shots and placing four attempts on frame, but could not find a breakthrough past Berry goalkeeper Cooper Cherry, who finished the outing with four stops.

Lynchburg generated early momentum, forcing two saves in the opening 25 minutes, including efforts from Izaack Cruz and Ayden Cass. Defensively, the Hornets held Berry without a shot in the first half and limited them to just two in the second, neither of which required a save from keeper Thomas Viscuso, who earned the shutout without facing a shot on goal.

The physical contest featured eight fouls from Lynchburg and 13 from Berry, along with eight yellow cards issued evenly between the two sides. Lynchburg created opportunities on the attacking end late, with Cass and William Casey both forcing action in the final minutes, but Cherry stood tall to preserve the scoreless draw.

Despite the result, Lynchburg controlled possession and tempo, earning two corners and keeping the Vikings pinned in their defensive half for much of the match. With the draw, the Hornets move to 1-0-1 on the season. Next up on the slate for Lynchburg will be a trip to St. Mary's City, Md., where the Hornets will face the likes of Salisbury on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. and St. Mary's on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.
