Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's volleyball team dominated in their second home game of the season, taking down Hood in three sets.
The Hornets offense operated by committee, with eight different players notching a kill.
Kailey Keough finished with a team-leading seven kills on the evening.
Jamie Smith also tallied a career-best six kills.
Lynchburg's serving was a crucial element in the Hornet's success. As a team, the group collected a whopping total of 16 aces.
Ava Meinhardt led the squad with six, followed by
Alexis Scipione with four.
Lynchburg rapidly took control of the contest in the opening set. After seizing a 13-3 advantage, the Hornets coasted to a 25-13 victory in the opening set.
In the second frame, Cardoza and company carried turned their momentum into the most dominant set this season. The Hornets tabbed an attacking percentage of .526, with 11 kills and one error, compared to the Blazers -.259, with one kill and eight errors. Lynchburg won the set 25-3.
The final frame of the night proved to be the most competitive. After falling behind at the begging of the set, the Blazers stormed back at the midway mark to make it 18-15. Nevertheless, Lynchburg sealed the affair with a 7-1 run for the 25-16 victory.
Tomorrow, Sept. 13, the Hornets (8-1) travel to Bridgewater for two matches, playing Pfeiffer at noon followed by Greensboro at 2 p.m.
